First of all I want to say that I am not against legal immigration into America. Most Americans agree that it is a good thing, as we are all in one fashion or another the descendants of immigrants. But there is a right way and a wrong way.
Here is what we need to do to stop undocumented workers entering the USA.
The Arizona Senate Bill, which I have read in its entirety, is a good start. The meat of the bill is that it imposes fines on business for not observing legal hiring practices. The effect of which is the loss of their business license and a fine of 1,000.00 per illegal found on the payroll of an Arizona business. From a Federal perspective the bill in my opinion does not go far enough.
Business will be fined $100,000.00 per undocumented worker found on the payroll.
This is a large enough fine that illegitimate business will quit taking the risk. When the illegal jobs stop, the incentive to come to America undocumented will also stop. The money generated from the fines will go back to the States of origin to be used solely for the purpose of funding future enforcement. This will allow the focus to be on the States with the largest problems. Only by removing the incentive will you stop the flow of illegal immigration. In order for that to happen, American companies must stop hiring undocumented workers. E-verify will be provided at no cost to business. Voluntary enforcement has not worked. Small fines have not worked. It will not be until the American business community stops hiring them that it will stop. It is only when you place a greater risk of loss on business than the reward they receive from it will business stop hiring undocumented workers.
In my opinion, when "American Job Producers" are not producing Americans Jobs they are anti-American workers. They are in violation of the Law. They are competing unfairly with legitimate business. We must serve our citizens first. If we do so, unemployment will go down and jobs for American citizens will open up. The new demand for jobs will bring back a working wage to the Nation that will now support a stronger tax base and reduce the deficit. With deficit reduction, comes tax relief. This is a win-win for the American people.
There is much talk right now about the need to secure the border. I agree that our borders should be secure. However, building a wall all along our Southern boundary is not the answer. We as a Freedom loving Democracy tore down one Wall in Berlin under President Reagan. I am not in support of another being built in America. It will cost Billions to build, and Billions more to maintain. It sends the wrong message to the rest of the world. Will a wall stop the illegal immigration? No. If we build a wall across Arizona they will come in through California. If we build a wall along the entire southern border of Mexico they will come in boats through the Gulf or cross over through Canada. We can not keep the undocumented workers out if they want to come in without removing the incentive to do so.
