Jobs

The Bush/Obama Stimulus Plan was to generate shovel ready jobs but there is a current unemployment rate of 27% in the Construction Trades. The housing market is at an all time historical low even after the Banks were bailed out. The foreclosure issue has never been resolved and the properties are now still with the banks. Power is in the ownership of property. John Locke wrote on Property centuries ago and he said there will come a time when there are too many people and to little property. The American Dream is home ownership and many have lost their homes through foreclosure. Jobs are what keep families in their homes. Homes are what keep families together.

I believe the time spent by Congress last year on the Health Bill should have been in creating jobs and in creating an economic climate that will produce jobs. The government's priorities have not been where they need to be. The recent "Jobs Bill" has had no significant impact on jobs. I believe that we must energize and inject confidence in small business and the general public to move the country forward. Government should be working to get out of the way, not place more barriers in front of growth.

Tax Credits for the small businesses that bring on new employees is, I believe, a small step in the right direction. However, if the business is unable to expand the credits are worthless to many as they have no additional work that generates the jobs. Greater tax relief for expansion of business is much longer lasting than short sighted one time payments.

There is little confidence in Government and when that is the case there is little confidence in the business sector and with consumers. It becomes a downward spiral. To change things we must first change Congress and re-new faith in our Government. Those elected will have to be bright, inventive, and willing to do what is right for the people of this nation not what will get them the continued backing from their individual party affiliation.

That is one reason why I am running for Congress.
